Leafs Agree To Terms With Kyle Rogers

Cliff Fletcher, vice-president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Saturday that the hockey club has agreed to terms with Niagara University Purple Eagles (NCAA) free agent right-winger Kyle Rogers to a two-year Entry Level contract. ?Kyle has tremendous size, has very good speed and is a very effective physical player,? said Fletcher. ?We look forward to Kyle joining the Toronto Marlies for the balance of the regular season and playoffs. We are very pleased to have him begin his professional career in the Toronto Maple Leaf organization.? Rogers, a 23-year-old native of Erie, Pennsylvania, recently completed his third season with Niagara University. The 6?3, 215-pound winger scored the game-winning goal in the 2008 CHA Tournament Championship game for the Purple Eagles in a 3-2 win over Bemidji State on March 16. Rogers was also named to the CHA All-Tournament Team. Niagara University advanced to the 2008 NCAA Tournament Regionals before being eliminated by Michigan on Friday in Albany, New York. Rogers played 34 games for Niagara University this season, and established career highs in goals (10), assists (13), points (23) and penalty minutes (40). In three seasons with the Purple Eagles, Rogers played 97 games and collected 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points, along with 89 minutes in penalties.

Rangers Agree To Terms With Justin Soryal

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with free agent forward Justin Soryal. Soryal, 20, has skated in 56 games with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) this season, registering 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points, along with 140 penalty minutes. He currently ranks sixth on the team in goals (15), fifth in assists (22), tied for fifth in points (37), and ranks second in penalty minutes (140). The Newmarket, Ontario native recorded a career-high, seven-game scoring streak from January 18 at Mississauga to February 2 at Barrie, registering five goals and five assists for 10 points over the span. He also collected a season-high, three assists on October 11 vs. Erie. The 6-2, 210-pound forward has skated in 198 career OHL games with the Peterborough Petes, recording 44 goals and 53 assists for 97 points, along with 455 penalty minutes. Last season, Soryal established career-highs in games played (60), goals (26), assists (27), and points (53). His 26 goals led all Peterborough players, while his 53 points ranked fourth on the team. In addition, he has appeared in 31 playoff games with Peterborough, registering two assists and 37 penalty minutes.

Wings' Cleary Gets New Five-Year Deal

The Red Wings on Tuesday agreed to terms with Daniel Cleary on a new five-year contract, as reported by Yahoo.com. Financial terms were not disclosed, but TSN of Canada is reporting the left wing will receive $14M over the length of the deal. ?We?re very pleased to have Dan continue as a member of the Red Wings for the next five years,? Detroit GM Ken Holland said. ?He?s found a home with our team and city, and at 29 years of age, we feel he is just beginning to hit the prime of his career.? ?It?s been an exciting process,?
